David has over 20 years of experience as in-house and outside counsel in patent and related matters. He has served as intellectual property and patent attorney at Tandem Computers and Sony Corporation of America, where his responsibilities included supervising patenting activities for emerging technology projects, drafting and prosecuting complex patent applications, supervising outside patent counsel, advising and lecturing engineering groups regarding technology law and export regulations, and participating in patent review committees. David’s experience in private practice includes writing and prosecuting patents involving computer related technology, general physics, and mechanical devices.
His publications include law journal articles in copyright and trademark law. In addition, he has published numerous other technical articles and symposium papers mostly relating to computer science.
Before his admission to the patent bar, David was a software engineer as well as a senior systems analyst at Prime Computer and Tandem Computers. At that time, he served as an adjunct instructor at the Pratt Institute’s graduate program in computer science. An inventor himself, he has been named on 4 issued patents.
David is admitted to practice in California, New York, and before the United States Patent and Trademark Office, and various federal jurisdictions including the Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit. He has a J.D. and an LL.M. in intellectual property from New York University School of Law. His technical training includes extensive coursework in physics, mathematics, and computer science.
